This was such a fun project to work on from my Art History Class. This is my recreated page of "Jacob Wrestling the Angel" from "Vienna Genesis". It is Byzantine Art in the early 6th century and the original was Tempera with silver ink on dyed vellum purple. It is 13 1/4 x 9 1/2" and is written in Greek. My version was done in colored pencil and a silver jell pen that the photo doesn't do justice. I love that my version shows the art's history. If you look at the original it was once purple and faded to a rust color. The original one is mostly tarnished now, so I made some of the letters darker.  I even paid attention to the little marks, texture, and placement of writing on the real page. I even went as far as making one of the tears in the same place. I did this all to show that the page is beginning to show its age and the history of the original in different stages of aging. You should definitely take a look at the original!
